Le Comte de Monte-Cristo.

This famous novel by Alexandre Dumas recounts an incredible, thrilling, and suspenseful tale of revenge. Its success was immediate, and its hero, Monte Cristo, became a true legend. This edition is enriched with numerous educational resources, linked to the "Becoming a Hero/Heroine: Fictional Destinies" unit in the new 5th-grade curriculum .

The novel:

In February 1815, the young sailor Edmond Dantès returns from a mission and docks in the port of Marseille. There he meets the shipowner Morrel, who wants to appoint him captain of his vessel, as well as his father and his fiancée, Mercédès, whom he is about to marry. His future looks bright, but this is without taking into account the plot hatched by three men—Fernand, Danglars, and Villefort—who harbor a fierce hatred for him. Dantès is arrested, imprisoned, and loses everything. Seven years later, he manages to escape, seize a priceless treasure, and can now devote himself to his implacable revenge…
